Knitting Workshops May 4 & 18 and June 1 & 8 celebrating the Fiber Rain Project

Fiber Rain, a community art project, is coming to Appleton in June, 2013! Volunteers will transform light posts, benches, and flowerbeds into works of art using cloth, yarn and other fibers. The main event, an outdoor fiber art exhibit, will be visible to all to see on the opening day of downtown Appleton's Farm Market on June 15, 2013.

Many hands lighten the load and many hands are needed to make this event happen! If you would like to help by knitting, crocheting, or making a yarn donation, we would love to have you join us!

Leading up to the main event, classes and workshops will be hosted at participating businesses throughout the area. The Trout Museum of Art, a co-sponsor of the event, will be hosting the following workshops:

 

Fiber Rain Workshop for the Fiber Rain Project - May 4 & 18 and June 1 & 8 2013, 1-4 p.m.

Intermediate and Experienced Knitters

 

Location: The Trout Museum of Art 4th Floor Conference Room (enter the back door of the museum and proceed to the 4th floor in the elevator)

Materials: Fiber Rain Project patterns and yarn will be provided (please bring your own needles)

Family Papier Maché Workshops May 18 & 19

Family Art Workshop: Papier Maché Sculpture
Suitable for children 5 and over
May 18 & 19
- Select half-hour time slots between noon & 4 p.m.

Location: The Trout Museum of Art Atrium
Instructor: Steve Wirtz

Fee: $1.00/person

 

Families will have the opportunity to participate in the creation of a life-size Papier Maché replica of "King's Horse, an oil painting by Tobias Keene featured in the museum's "GENERATION" exhibition. Time slots are available in half-hour increments between noon and 4 p.m. Participants should dress appropriately for the activity - things will get a little messy! Most of Saturday will be spent working with papier mache'. Sunday's activities will focus on painting. RSVP to 920-733-4089.

 

Steve Wirtz is an award-winning artist who specializes in laminated paper (papier mache') sculpture. In addition to exhibiting at art festivals and galleries around the nation, Steve also shares his talent and passion for art in school settings. Wirtz has appeared in over 30 schools to date with his artist-in-residence programs and demonstrations. Steve inspires students of all ages with the endless possibilities of papier mache' sculpture, and shares with the students what it's really like to be a professional artist.
